Summary

The Biscay 36 is a 36-foot long-keeled, ketch-rigged sailboat designed by Alan F. Hill for long-distance cruising. It was first produced in 1974 and is known for its easy motion, directional stability, and good sea-keeping abilities. The Biscay 36 is built with a full keel, typically with at least five berths and a doghouse for protection, and is designed to be handled easily, even in challenging conditions.

Loose Goose has had a resent Beta engine fitted in 2021 and a mixture of Raymarine and Garmin electronics.

Construction

Full Keel: Provides directional stability, which is beneficial for long-distance sailing but can make handling in tight spaces more challenging.

Steering: Skeg mounted rudder and wheel steering

Ketch Rig: Features a two-masted configuration, offering flexibility in sail handling and a balanced sail plan.

GRP Construction: Built from fiberglass reinforced plastic (GRP), making it durable and relatively low maintenance. She also has Teak laid side decks and cockpit.

Key Characteristics:

Designed for blue water cruising: The Biscay 36 is a popular choice for offshore sailing and has been successfully used in the Golden Globe Race

Durable and Reliable: Built with careful consideration for the rigors of long-distance sailing.

Good Sea Handling: Designed to handle a variety of sea conditions with ease and confidence.
