Due to its design as a seagoing vessel, the boat could probably be entered in the Register of Seagoing Vessels as a motor yacht and fitted out and manned as a pleasure craft if purely private use for sporting and recreational purposes is intended (information provided without guarantee).
History:
The ‘Ottenstreuer’ was built in 1957 and, as WS 3, later WS 33, was part of a unit of four particularly robust harbour patrol boats belonging to the Water Police, which could be deployed in the Port of Hamburg and on the Lower Elbe even in heavy ice conditions. The boats shaped the harbour landscape for almost five decades, an unusually long period. After being decommissioned in 2006, the Museumshafen Oevelgönne e.V. was able to take over the boat in order to preserve it, together with its members, as a testament to Hamburg’s port history. The ship was only given its current name in 2007, following its decommissioning, in memory of the former head of the Water Police, Hans Ottenstreuer. With its rounded deck superstructure, the harbour patrol boat is representative of an official vessel from the 1950s.
Condition:
Generally in need of significant maintenance and repair
· Last visit to the shipyard for anti-corrosion treatment: June 2021
· Severe rust damage to superstructure and deck
· The window seals need replacing
· The hydraulics of the signal mast are not working
Sale:
The Museumshafen Oevelgönne e.V. has decided to sell the vessel because, for several years now, it has been unable to find a volunteer crew to maintain the OTTENSTREUER.
