Summary

Westbound Adventure is a 1983 Sigma 33 Cruser designed by David Thomas. Known for being a fast, stable, and capable offshore boat suitable for cruising. The original OOD version has a deep fin keel and fractional rig, while this "detuned" cruising version was also produced from 1981 onwards with a shorter mast and shallower wing tamden keel.She has accommodation for up to seven berths. Despite its age they have a proven its heavy-weather ability, with some boats having circumnavigated the globe.  

Westbound benfits from a 2006 Beta engine, electric windlass, heating. She has also maintained to RYA and MCA standards during her 20 years as a sail training vessel, with 5 year out of the water inspections and annual in water RYA inspections.

Construstion

The Sigma 33 cruiser is constructed from hand-laid GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) with a foam-cored floor and integral bulkheads. Early versions had off-white hulls, while later models featured white hulls and decks. They are built with a fin keel, spade rudder with tiller steering, and a single-skin GRP hull.  

Construction details

The hull is hand-laid GRP, and the decks are GRP with non-slip surfaces. Some early boats had off-white hull gel coats with blue or cream decks, while later ones had white hulls and decks. 

The construction includes foam-cored floors and integral bulkheads for durability. 

The Sigma 33 Cruiser features a Tamdem wing keel and a tiller steered spade rudder.

Accomodation

A Sigma 33 cruiser typically offers accommodation for up to 6 people in two cabins, featuring a V-berth in the forepeak, a dinette in the saloon that converts to a double berth, and a single settee berth with a pilot berth above it. There is also a separate heads compartment with a marine toilet and a galley with a cooker, sink, and storage.  

Accommodation layout

Forecabin: A V-berth with an infill and storage underneath. There is an opening hatch to the foredeck. 

Heads: A separate compartment between the forecabin and saloon, typically on the port side, with a marine toilet and washbasin. A hanging locker is often located opposite. 

Saloon:A port-side settee can convert to a double berth. A starboard-side settee can convert to a single berth, sometimes with a pilot or lee cloth berth above it. 

A central table with drop leaves. 

Nav station: A chart table is typically located to port, behind the companionway steps, with a quarter berth behind it. 

Galley: Located to starboard, opposite the chart table, it includes a two-burner gimballed Plastimo gas cooker with an oven and grill, a sink with a manually pumped water supply, and storage.

Headroom: Standing headroom is often noted as a positive feature.
