Service History

Engine maintained by owner. See dates on filters. Raw water pump rebuilt in June 2026; new lip seal and impeller, cooling system flushed and refilled 2024

Heads: new pump in June 2026 and full set of spares; anti-siphon seals replaced in 2021. Y-junction installed to enable fresh water flushing when in the marina.

The primary fuel filter was moved forward into the engine bay to make maintenance easier, using the same filters as the fuel polishing system.

The Marco fuel pump circulates fuel from the tank sump back into the tank; the tank can be fully pumped out if required. 2 WEMA inspection hatches were installed on top of the fuel tank. A secondary fuel isolation valve was installed in the aft cabin adjacent to the back of the engine box.

Sight Guage and ruler with calibrated capacity notes on board.

Batteries: MRBF fuses on Service batteries; covers placed on all terminals where possible. Batteries contained and secured in GRP vented containers

Sail drive Upper oil seal replaced 2024; lip seal replaced on the hand crank shaft on the engine.

Owners Comments

Iolair Mhara was one of the last Westerlies ever built with the extensive manufacturing skills of the Westerly group; her internal woodwork is in excellent condition and has been lovingly cared for with Lemon oil to maintain and preserve its condition.

Iolair Mhara has been cruised around Northern Ireland, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, and is extremely comfortable to sail in a variety of conditions; reef early, and she will look after you. As you heel, the wide decks become horizontal, easing movement when at sea.

The slightly upturned bow makes the boat very dry and capable in many sea states; she does not slam in broken seas and can make fast, comfortable passages under sail or motor sailing with the main.

The cockpit enclosure was one of the best investments we made in the boat, another room to watch the world go by from. Bespoke cushions are on board with a Laguna folding table; with the tiller up, you will not be short of space. Additional loops are sewn into the enclosure and saves the wet oilies from having to go down below; great for keeping the boat dry. Iolair Mhara was originally from Southampton and called White Bird; I believe she had competed in the Round the Island Race and had an IRC Handicap, The next owner renamed her Iolaire that name did not sit well with Janice and I as we had read about the troop ship returning from the First world war and sinking several Miles short of Stornoway, losing many Men who had survied the trenches. Hence the Name was changed to Iolair Mhara (Sea Eagle). She was based at East Antrim Boat Club in the first 5 years of your ownership, competing in club races and holding her own in Club handicap races; she is no slouch!

All sea cocks below the waterline are replaced with TruDesign plus additional load-bearing collars 2016 Front engine mounts were replaced in 2024, and the sail drive mount SD20 is to be replaced when the sail drive has its seals/gater replaced shortly.

Exhaust elbow replaced in 2019, Diesel lift pump replaced in 2016

SS Stanchion Gates installed in 2023 with Pelican hooks, additional Pelican hooks installed to assist with loading outboard and fuel from mooring on lower guard wire, safety neeting on bow port and starboard Chain mooring strop for shackle top moorings, Anchor Marker buoy

Spinlock Tiller extension

10 Spinlock rope Clutches
